Description

The three stages of evolution for the Generation I Grass type starter Pokemon: Bulbasaur, Ivysaur and Venusaur!

• Bulbasaur is a small, quadrupedal, amphibian Pokémon. It has a green plant bulb on its back that grows from a seed planted there at birth. The bulb absorbs sunlight and provides energy through photosynthesis, as well as from the nutrient-rich seeds inside. Bulbasaur uses the nutrients in the seed to grow for some time after birth. The bulb also conceals two slender, tentacle-like vines that Bulbasaur can use to grab tree branches and pull itself up to reach berries. Bulbasaur’s bulb will flash blue when it is ready to evolve into Ivysaur and then Venusaur. It can survive for days without eating and is known to sleep in sunny spots. Bulbasaur is found in grasslands and forests throughout the Kanto region, but is hard to come by in the wild because it is a first partner Pokémon.

• Ivysaur is a Grass/Poison type Pokémon that evolves from Bulbasaur at level 16 and into Venusaur at level 32. There is a bud on this Pokémon’s back. To support its weight, Ivysaur’s legs and trunk grow thick and strong. If it starts spending more time lying in the sunlight, it’s a sign that the bud will bloom into a large flower soon. Ivysaur’s name is a combination of ivy and dinosaur, or possibly saur which means lizard in Greek. Its appearance seems to be inspired by several different types of animals, including reptiles, amphibians, and mammals.

• Venusaur is a Grass/Poison type Pokémon. It is the final form of Bulbasaur and is also known as a Seed Pokémon. Venusaur is more powerful in the summer because it can convert sunlight into energy. It’s flower’s aroma is said to soothe people’s emotions. Venusaur are docile Pokémon that prefer to sunbathe so that the plants on their backs can photosynthesize. The flower on Venusaur’s back catches the sun’s rays, which it absorbs and uses for energy. With enough solar energy, the flowers on Venusaur’s backs can release a fragrance that calms people and hostile Pokémon. The scent also attracts Bug-type Pokémon to the flowers to help pollinate them during breeding season.
